Discovering hidden capabilities of our mind by Noreen Sarai

Ron Hale- Hale, Mind performance hacks is a book that illustrates the strength of the human memory. Page 17 and 18 summarizes chapters 1 to 8; therefore it gives one an overview of what one will gain by reading the whole book. The author confirms the techniques discussed in the book that they work by giving real life examples where they worked on him/her. The author also uses different techniques of memorizing on chapter 1. Since the book will be read by many different people from different backgrounds, one can find or choose a technique(s) which best fits one to memorize.

It’s amazing how the book is so practical for example the author on page 40 uses a story to remember credit numbers with 16 digits. Chapter 3 was written in a way which can be easily understood because the author used what we encounter in our daily life for example, he discourages us from brainstorming whilst in meetings/boardrooms, but to go outside and see our environment then try to relate it to our project. By so doing we can find new ideas.

The author opens our brains in how we can convert something difficulty to something very easy. For example in chapter 4 he rearranges numbers to be added so that they can be easily added, and an easy way to multiply big numbers without using a calculator. The last chapter was written in a strategic way by putting together what has been read from chapter 1 to 6. And it gives the reader ways to be ready to implement what was learnt from this book.

However if all or a number of ideas from the book are to be employed, though they are useful, they still leave the reader with a big task to use them. For example one of the ways to memorize the phone numbers, credit numbers etc is to assign a word for each number from 1 to 100. Then you memorize the words instead of numbers by building a story. Also you need to memorize speed words for you to write faster. This can be possible but will require a lot of effort. I still believe there could be a better way which requires less effort.

Chapter six has more attention on how to design your own language but there is no emphasis on why you should design your own language. If benefits of designing your own language were well explained the reader would then be enthusiastic to learn on how to design it.

The author in some topics refers the reader to other books/articles. Though the reader may find more information on those referred books, it may leave the reader with a feeling that the author of this book didn’t fully cover the topics in details.

Otherwise with everything said, the book is likely to attract people to read, the title is captivating.
